Pillar VI · The Nine Pillars
AURA
A sovereign device built on one principle: your identity, data, and voice belong to you, not the platform behind the screen.
The two free books place this Pillar within the complete Commons World architecture.
The role of this Pillar
Every institution in Commons World depends on reaching people in their daily lives. A baseline, a rating, a registry, a currency — none of it matters if there's no way for an ordinary person to actually use it. The Autonomous Unified Rights Architecture (AURA) is the device that makes that access real.
AURA is far more than a phone. It's a rights-based communications, identity, learning, verification, and exchange environment — built from the ground up on a single premise: that an individual's data, identity, and voice belong to the individual, not to the platform, the advertiser, or the institution behind the device. In a digital economy where, for most people, the user has quietly become the product, AURA reverses the relationship entirely. Privacy isn't a settings menu here. It's the architecture itself.
At its centre is a sovereign digital identity controlled entirely by its owner — one that can prove a credential is valid without revealing anything else about the person holding it.
An age check doesn't require a birth date. A qualification check doesn't require a transcript. The individual reveals only what's necessary, only for as long as it's necessary, and nothing more.
AURA doesn't use a carrier-issued SIM card, which a telecom provider can suspend or revoke at will. It uses a sovereign cryptographic identity instead — a public key the network can route communications to, and a private key that never leaves the device, held by no one but its owner. Where conventional networks are unreliable or deliberately restricted, AURA connects through a peer-to-peer mesh network that routes communication device to device, with a satellite layer extending that same sovereignty to any location on Earth over time. It works completely offline for everything stored locally — identity, credentials, wallet, health records — because digital sovereignty shouldn't depend on having a good signal.
Twenty-four built-in capabilities carry that sovereignty into daily life, and none of them harvest, profile, or monetise their owner's behaviour.
Commons Wallet holds verified legal title to every digital asset a person owns, with no custodial intermediary standing between them and it. Commons Verify turns a camera into an instant lookup: point it at a product, a business, or a public notice, and see its full Commons Registry record and current GAR rating on the spot. Commons ID replaces every login, password, and account across every institution with one identity that no government or platform controls. A sovereign health record, an encrypted messenger, an on-device search engine that surfaces verified findings instead of paid placement, a wellbeing tool that never leaves the device, a personal organiser, a document vault, real-time translation, and the tools to submit and follow People's News evidence — all of it lives in one place, all of it owned by the person holding it.
The device itself is designed to be affordable, repairable, and upgradeable — a deliberate rejection of planned obsolescence, built to last well beyond the replacement cycle the consumer electronics industry has normalised.
None of this is about rejecting technology. It's about building technology that finally answers to the person using it. AURA serves its owner. Its owner does not serve the device, the platform, the advertiser, or the institution behind it.

The Hidden World is the evidence companion — a chapter for each of the twelve challenges, plus the Nine Pillars in full. Commons Community is the field guide you can read in one sitting. Both are free. If you are reading this for an institution, the contact page explains how to open a conversation.
